A Lennox mini-split installation in Long Beach typically runs $3,800 to $6,500 installed, depending on the system size, number of zones, and whether your existing line set and electrical can be reused. We stock Lennox-compatible components on our trucks and in our Long Beach shop, so in many cases we can have a failed indoor unit, outdoor condenser, or control board swapped within 24 to 48 hours. Most Long Beach homeowners discover they need new mini-split installation work after a summer heat wave exposes a weak component: the outdoor unit runs but the indoor air handler won’t blow, or the system trips its breaker at 3 p.m. when temperatures climb past 90°F near the coast.
What we see most often in Long Beach, especially in neighborhoods like Bluff Park, Belmont Shore, and Naples, is salt-air corrosion eating at condenser coils and electrical connections. A Lennox mini-split that would last 12 years in Riverside might start losing capacity at year 8 three blocks from the ocean. That’s not a defect. That’s chemistry. And it changes which parts we recommend replacing versus repairing.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox builds mini-splits under two main lines: the MS8 series (single-zone, 9,000 to 24,000 BTU) and the MLA/MPA series (multi-zone, up to five indoor heads on one outdoor unit). The older MSB and MWMA lines are also common in Long Beach homes built or renovated between 2010 and 2018. If you’re not sure what you have, check the outdoor unit’s data plate: the model number is stamped on a metal label on the side, and it’ll start with “MS8,” “MLA,” “MPA,” or “MWMA.” That plate also gives you the BTU rating, refrigerant type (R-410A for most of these, which matters because R-410A is being phased down nationally), and the serial number we use to check whether any part of your system still carries manufacturer coverage.
A compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Lennox mini-split indoor and outdoor units are paired by the factory at specific capacities. You can’t swap a 12,000 BTU indoor head onto a 9,000 BTU outdoor condenser and expect it to work, even if the fittings match. The control boards are programmed for the factory match. If a previous contractor ever “made it work” with an adapter or a mismatched board, that system is running outside its design envelope, and it will fail early. When Marco Benitez looks at a Lennox mini-split in Long Beach, the first thing he checks after the model plate is whether the indoor and outdoor units actually belong together.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Lennox OEM parts carry the factory warranty and are built to the exact board and coil specifications. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for some components (capacitors, fan motors, drain pumps), and we stock them when they match or beat factory specs. But for control boards, inverter drives, and thermistors, we use Lennox OEM almost without exception. The wrong aftermarket board can take out a compressor, and that turns a $400 part into a $1,800 problem.

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
- The indoor head runs but won’t cool (or heat). The outdoor unit’s compressor is likely lost its charge through a pinhole leak, or the reversing valve is stuck. In coastal Long Beach, pinhole coil leaks from salt corrosion are the number one cause we document.
- The system trips its breaker repeatedly. A failing inverter compressor start circuit or a grounded fan motor draws too many amps on startup. This is not a “flip it back and see” situation – it’s a sign the compressor is eating itself.
- Water drips from the indoor head. The drain pan is clogged, cracked, or the float switch has failed. In humid Long Beach late-summer air, a clogged drain line backs up fast and stains drywall.
- The outdoor unit runs but makes a grinding or rattling noise. Fan motor bearings or the compressor mounts are worn. Left alone, that fan motor seizes and transfers heat back to the compressor, which kills it.
- One zone in a multi-zone system stops responding. The electronic expansion valve (EEV) in that branch is stuck or its stepper motor has failed. This part fails before the compressor in most Lennox multi-zone failures we get sent out to.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Lennox mini-split installation in Long Beach, here’s the price picture we’d quote at your door, in writing, before any work begins:
| Job | Installed Price Range (Long Beach) |
|---|---|
| Single-zone mini-split replacement (existing line set reusable) | $3,800 – $4,800 |
| Single-zone mini-split replacement (new line set required) | $4,300 – $5,500 |
| Multi-zone system (2-3 indoor heads, one outdoor unit) | $5,800 – $6,500 |
| Indoor head or outdoor unit swap only (labor included, part excluded) | $700 – $1,200 labor plus part |
What drives the spread in Long Beach: whether the existing line set is the right diameter and insulation condition (salt air destroys foam insulation, and you’ll lose capacity through a bare suction line), whether your condenser pad has settled, whether the electrical disconnect and whip meet current code, and whether the old unit used R-410A or an earlier refrigerant that requires line flushing. Our price includes removal and disposal of the old unit, a new wall bracket or condenser pad, line set flush or replacement, evacuation to 500 microns or below, startup and charge verification, and a written report of pressures, temperatures, and amp draw. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s in writing, not implied.
DIY or Call Us?
Honest split. You can safely check two things when a Lennox mini-split acts up in your Long Beach home: the air filter on the indoor head (pull it, rinse it, let it dry, put it back) and the outdoor unit’s clearance (leaves, iceplant, and beach grass built up against the coil will choke airflow). Those two checks solve maybe 10% of the calls we run. What you should not touch: opening the outdoor unit cabinet, probing electrical connections, adding refrigerant, or running any diagnostic on the inverter board. The inverter drive in a Lennox mini-split holds enough DC voltage to hurt you even after the breaker is off, and a wrong move with a manifold gauge on R-410A is a freeze-burn and a lost charge in one motion. It’s not a homeowner repair. It’s a licensed, factory-trained repair with the right gauges, vacuum pump, and micron gauge. If the system is doing anything beyond a dirty filter, call (562) 512-7423. Marco’s standing instruction to the crew: “Tell me what the system is doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs – in writing, before I touch anything.”
FAQs
A well-maintained Lennox mini-split in Long Beach lasts 10 to 14 years, but homes within a mile of the ocean should plan for 8 to 12 because salt corrosion accelerates coil and control board failure. We replace condenser coils at a higher rate in Bluff Park and the Peninsula than anywhere else in our service area.
It depends on the part. Capacitors, fan motors, drain pumps, and thermistors are repair-friendly and economical. A failed inverter compressor, a corroded-through condenser coil, or a control board with shorted traces is a replacement decision – and in a 10-year-old system, replacement is usually the better money. We’ll quote both options in writing and tell you which one Marco would put in his own house.
A single-zone replacement with an existing line set takes one day, typically 6 to 8 hours from arrival to cleanup. A multi-zone system with new line sets and electrical runs can take two to three days. We arrive in the window we give you, and the crew leaves the site clean, with the old unit and all packaging removed.
Our trucks carry common Lennox-compatible components: capacitors for MS8 and MPA series units, fan motors, drain pumps, thermistors, and a selection of control boards. Less common parts – a specific inverter drive or an obscure EEV stepper – are sourced from Lennox supply houses in the LA basin and typically arrive in 24 to 48 hours. We also stock Carrier and Trane parts for the dual-brand homes we see in Long Beach.
